My soul will be
satisfied
as with fat
and rich food,
and my mouth
will praise
you
with joyful lips.
-Psalm 63:5
Oh man! What goodness. Last night, I made a concoction that consisted of grilled veggies, scrambled eggs, hummus, feta, and hot sauce.
My mouth was having a party.
I was quite seriously praising the Lord for taste buds as I sat alone at our big wooden table, a glass of milk washing down the fiesta. He created us with such desire to be fed and graciously meets our bodily need, but still tells us, "life is more than food" (Luke 12:23).
How much more does He want to satisfy our souls?
When Jesus ransomed us, He not only paid our colossal debt and bought us out of inescapable slavery; He gave us access to the Father's bank account--you know, the one that is unfading, undefiled, FILLED with

blessing.
I yearn to hunger more, that I might be utterly satisfied.
I long for a deeper well that only living water can fill.
I want to know so much more of Him, "having the eyes of my heart enlightened, that I may know what is the hope to which he has called me, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ..." (Eph. 1:18-20)
"O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, 'Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.' Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
